Calgary is a city in Alberta. It is located at the meeting of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the south of the province. It is in an area of foothills and prairie. It is about 80 km east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. The city had a population of about 1.27 million in 2018, making it Alberta's largest city and Canada's third-largest municipality. In 1988, Calgary became the first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympic Games. Calgary was named after Calgary on the Isle of Mull, Scotland.
