Mexican Navy ship hits Brooklyn Bridge in New York City

Two people have been killed and at least 19 others injured after a tall Mexican Navy training sailboat crashed into New York City's Brooklyn Bridge, the city mayor has said.

Eric Adams said the Cuauhtémoc lost power before the collision on Saturday evening. US officials said 277 people were on board the vessel, which was on a goodwill visit.

Footage shows the Cuauhtémoc's towering masts clipping the bridge as the ship was passing under the famous structure on Saturday evening.

Crew members were standing on the masts at the time of collision, authorities said, which all snapped and fell to the deck.

Mexican doctors conducted extensive laboratory studies on the two alleged "non-human" alien corpses revealed last week. The tests were done by Jose de Jesus Zalce Benitez, a forensic doctor with the navy at the Noor Clinic on Monday. Dr Benitez said "no evidence of any assembly or manipulation of the skulls" were found.

The doctors said that the so-called bodies belonged to a single skeleton. Jaime Maussan, a Mexican journalist and longtime UFO enthusiast, presented two tiny mummified bodies with elongated heads and three fingers on each hand. One was described as female, with eggs inside.

The specimens were about 1,000 years old, according to carbon testing carried out by researchers at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Mr Maussan claimed they were not related to any species on Earth.

Mexican doctors have carried out several laboratory studies on the remains of alleged non-human beings, which were presented in recent days to Mexico's congress.

According to Jose de Jesus Zalce Benitez, director of the Health Sciences Research Institute of the Secretary of the Navy, the studies showed that the alleged bodies belonged to a single skeleton and were not assembled.

Zalce Benitez also said that the laboratory tests have shown that "there is no evidence of any assembly or manipulation of the skulls."

Mexican journalist Jaime Maussan recently showed two tiny mummified bodies he said were "non-human" beings to congress, sparking a controversy between the scientific community and the Peruvian government, who claim that the remains are pre-Hispanic objects.

Mexico suffering world’s highest Covid death rate as cases surge

BBC News shows that Mexico is currently suffering the world’s highest death rate from coronavirus, with hospitals at breaking point. 

More than 320,000 people are thought to have died in Mexico with coronavirus. The authorities have updated their figures which are some 60 per cent higher than they had previously stated.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico is part of the ongoing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The virus was confirmed to have reached Mexico in February 2020. However, the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) reported two cases of COVID-19 in mid-January 2020 in the states of Nayarit and Tabasco, one case per state. The Secretariat of Health, though the "Programa Centinela" (Spanish for "Sentinel Program"), estimated in mid-July 2020 that there were more than 2,875,734 cases in Mexico because they were considering the total number of cases confirmed as just a statistical sample.

Al Jazeera English shows that Mexico has asked the United States to extend restrictions of non-essential travel at the border. It comes as healthcare workers in Mexico plea for people to follow the rules to help keep them safe.

According to the government's own data, almost 2,500 people employed in the nation's health sector have died since the start of the outbreak. Hospitals are certainly nearing full capacity in several cities. Al Jazeera’s Manuel Rapalo reports from Mexico City.

Mexico hits new record of coronavirus cases as President meets Trump

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador visited Washington and USA counter-part Donald Trump. López Obrador said that he got understanding and respect from Trump. The interesting talks were the first face-to-face meeting and came a week after the new North-American trade pact was launched. Canada was also part of the agreement.

It's important to stay 6 feet apart and wear a mask (as much as you can) everywhere you go. It's certainly a good idea to stay home as much as you can.

Mexico coronavirus death toll is 3,926

Mexico's coronavirus Covid-19 death toll has reached 3,926. More than 38,000 people have been infected with the Coronavirus COVID-19 in Mexico. However, health experts warn the number is likely much higher.

Mexico has announced a ‘new normality’ in plan to reopen the struggling economy. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has unveiled a plan to reopen the country's economy by June 1. This is after several weeks of lockdown measures to slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The consequences of unemployment are especially problematic for Mexico where 56 percent of workers are employed in the informal economy and where there are no federal unemployment benefits.
