"Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day ... " - Trump

Oil prices pushed higher Sunday after President Donald Trump threatened to strike Iranian energy facilities if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened Monday.

Brent crude, the global benchmark, rose 0.7% to $110 USA Dollars. US crude rose 1.3% to $113.

In Canada, Toronto on April 6, 2026 has average price of 185.9 CAD cent(s)/litre at local gas stations.

Toronto: Canada: Past Months:

Month High Low

March, 2026 178.9 cent(s)/litre 135.9 cent(s)/litre

February, 2026 134.9 cent(s)/litre 128.9 cent(s)/litre

January, 2026 130.9 cent(s)/litre 122.9 cent(s)/litre

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH!” Trump posted to Truth Social on Sunday morning (at about 8:00am).

Trump had issued a similar two-day ultimatum to Iran on March 21, only to extend the deadline to April 6.

The threat is a stark contrast to Trump’s claims last week that the USA did not need the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump U-turn on Hormuz could be due to 'pressure' from Gulf nations

FRANCE 24 English has the story.

President Donald Trump extended his deadline for Iran to reopen the crucial Strait of Hormuz to international shipping. He had previously given a 48-deadline to Tehran, which would lead to strikes on Iranian power plants were the Strait not to reopen. The backtracking could have been encouraged by Gulf States, who have been targeted by vigorous strikes by Iran; FRANCE 24's Philip Turle tells us more.

Iran war: Tehran fails in missile strike on the US-UK base at Diego Garcia

DW News on Youtube has the story.

Tehran has fired two long range missiles at the remote US UK base on Diego Garcia — one intercepted, the other failing mid flight. The attempted strike, condemned by the UK as "reckless," shows Iran is willing to hit far beyond the Gulf as the conflict widens. The missiles traveled farther than previously believed possible, raising new questions about the true range of Tehran's weapons.

With Diego Garcia lying nearly twice as far as Iran's assumed maximum missile range, DW spoke with experts Farzan Sabet and Hans‑Jakob Schindler to assess the real capabilities of Iran's missile program — and to examine how seriously governments and the public should take Tehran's warning that Israelis and Americans are now "unsafe worldwide."

Why closing the Strait of Hormuz could have devastating effects on global oil shipping

DW News has the story.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards say the escalation in fighting in the region means the Strait of Hormuz is no longer safe and is essentially closed to traffic, according to media reports.

In a statement carried by the Tasnim news agency, the Guards said ships had been warned to stay away "due to the insecure atmosphere around the strait because of the military aggression by the US and Israel and the responses of Iran." "With the cessation of passage of ships and tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, the strait has been basically closed," the statement added.

DW speaks to military analyst Marina Miron, King's College London, about the implications of closing the Strait of Hormuz.

Khamenei warns US will pay "heavy price" if it attacks Iran again

Global News has the story.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Thursday his country had delivered a “slap to America’s face” with its strike on an American base in Qatar, and warned against any further U.S. attacks in his first public comments since a ceasefire was declared with Israel after 12 days of war.

He also downplayed Sunday’s U.S. strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites using bunker-buster bombs and cruise missiles, saying that U.S. President Donald Trump — who said the attack “completely and fully obliterated Iran’s nuclear program — had “exaggerated” its impact.

Iran bans import of UK and US Covid-19 vaccines, saying they're 'completely untrustworthy'

Iran: Covid-19 Coronavirus death toll is 61,230

Iran bans import of UK and US Covid-19 vaccines, saying they're 'completely untrustworthy'

FRANCE 24 English shows that foreign companies will not be allowed to test Covid-19 vaccines on the Iranian people, President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday, one day after the country’s supreme leader banned the import of UK- and US-produced jabs and said they were "completely untrustworthy."

Iran recently received the first consignment of the Chinese COVID-19 vaccine Sinopharm.

The cargo of 250,000 doses of the vaccine, donated by China, was handed over to the Health Ministry, officials said.

Iran seems to be on the verge of a 4th wave of the pandemic with a spike in new cases in recent weeks in some provinces.

Earlier in February, Iran had imported the Sputnik-V vaccine from Russia, which was administered to healthcare workers and other high-risk groups in the first phase of the rollout.

Iran also has plans to import some 17 million doses of vaccine from the WHO's COVAX channel beside countries like India and South Korea, in addition to co-producing a vaccine with Cuba.

Iran is also preparing to produce a homegrown vaccine. Two vaccines manufactured by domestic knowledge-based firms have already passed the human trial phase, expected to be ready by summer.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Iran is part of the global worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). On 19 February 2020, Iran reported its first confirmed cases of infections in Qom. The virus may have been brought to the country by a merchant from Qom who had travelled to China.

In response to the Covid-19 coronavirus the government cancelled public events and Friday prayers; closed schools, universities, shopping centers, bazaars, and holy shrines; and banned festival celebrations.

Economic measures were also announced to help families and businesses.

The Iranian economy entered a third consecutive year of recession following the triple-shock of sanctions, oil market collapse and COVID-19. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contracted by 6.8 percent in the Iranian calendar year 2019/2020 as a result of expiration of US sanctions waivers on Iran's oil exports.

Iran Standard Time (IRST) or Iran Time (IT) is the time zone used in Iran. Iran uses a UTC offset UTC+03:30. IRST is defined by the 52.5 degrees east meridian, the same meridian which defines the Iranian calendar and is the official meridian of Iran.

Between 2005 and 2008, by decree of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran did not observe daylight saving time (called Iran Daylight Time or IRDT). It was reintroduced from 21 March 2008.

The modern flag of Iran is a tri-colored green, white, red. Green represents several factors of the country. It symbolizes the Persian culture, its language, nature, growth, and vitality. White represents freedom and peace. Red symbolizes the blood of the martyr, vitality, and sophistication.

Iran 2020 population is estimated at 83,992,949 people at mid year according to UN data. Iran population is equivalent to 1.08% of the total world population.

Does Iran really have nuclear weapons? Iran maintains that it has never sought nuclear weapons and never would. It says its nuclear work only has civilian aims. Tehran began breaching the deal's curbs last year in a step-by-step response to President Donald Trump's withdrawal from the deal in May 2018 and the reimposition of USA sanctions.

Iran reports highest one-day COVID-19 deaths since outbreak

Unfortunately, Iran has reported highest one-day COVID-19 deaths since outbreak began. Iran has recorded its highest single-day jump in Coronavirus Covid-19 deaths to date. 200 people have died. The health minister has blamed the rise on Iranians not following important restrictions.

Iran has reported a total of more than 13,000 Coronavirus COVID-19 deaths, with more than 262,000 cases. Just last week, Iran started to reimpose some important restrictions after a surge in new cases.

It's important to stay 6 feet apart and wear a mask (as much as you can) everywhere you go. It's certainly a good idea to stay home as much as you can.

Iran navy 'friendly fire' incident kills 19 sailors

Unfortunately, nineteen sailors have died and 15 others wounded after one Iranian navy warship accidentally struck another with a missile during one of the exercises.

The accident involved Iranian naval vessels in the Gulf of Oman, Iran's navy has said.

Iranian media reported that the support ship Konarak was hit by a new powerful anti-ship missile being tested by the frigate Jamaran during an exercise on Sunday.

The Konarak was putting targets out in the water and remained too close to one, according to the reports.

The incident happened near the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway. About a fifth of the world's oil passes through there.
