Large parts of Spain and Portugal experienced major power outages, shutting off traffic lights and causing chaos at travel hubs. In Spain, all rail traffic has come to a halt and in Portugal, authorities are warning against any unnecessary travel due to the risk of traffic lights failing. CNN’s Salma Abdelaziz reports.

The following is an interesting Portugal update from May 8.
The North region is the one with the highest number of deaths (639), followed by the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (233), the Center (214), the Algarve (13), the Azores (14) and the Alentejo that registers in 1 case, the epidemiological situation report advances, with data updated until midnight on Thursday, maintaining the Autonomous Region of Madeira with no record of deaths.
Portugal has set June 4 for the resumption of the Primeira Liga season. The championship was suspended on March 12 due to the Coronavirus Covid-19 Pandemic.
Some restrictions are easing now in Portugal. This allows the opening of some more businesses and certain activities.
The Government of Portugal is working "hard" to help Portuguese emigrants to return to Portugal in the summer, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recently told the local media.
Portugal is certainly hoping for a better economy with hopes of early reopening of tourism. About 30 million tourists visit Portugal every year. Authorities are planning to reopen hotels and beaches by mid-June.
