Rural regions of Russia are unfortunately already poorly resourced. They are taking the brunt of the latest wave of COVID-19 cases. Many hospitals are running out of room and supplies for new patients, and morgues are overflowing.

Watch the news: Coronavirus COVID-19 cases overwhelm rural Russian hospitals.

Russia reported a record high of 21,798 new Coronavirus Covid-19 infections on Monday. Authorities are calling for stricter measures to contain the virus in certain regions.

Certain regions will need to have strengthened restrictions. The regions where restrictions should be increased include the Far Eastern Magadan and Sakhalin regions, as well as the Arkhangelsk and Ulyanovsk regions, among others.

People are encouraged to wear masks on public transport and at shopping malls.
