Canada: Ottawa announces flight suspensions, quarantine hotel stays

CBC News shows that Canada's major airlines have agreed to suspend flights to Mexico and the Caribbean as the federal government introduces new mandatory quarantine rules for passengers, such as hotel stays, as it tries to discourage international travel.

It seems that Ottawa isn't really banning non-essential travel. It is making it as inconvenient and expensive as possible. Now, in addition to existing requirements, returning travellers will need to quarantine in a hotel for three days at their own expense, at a likely cost of at least $2,000.

  1. Right now, some countries remain under lockdown because of the Coronavirus Covid-19 Pandemic. Some countries are reopening.

Several countries (like Spain, Iran, Italy, Denmark, Israel, and Germany) that previously imposed restrictions are beginning to lift lockdown measures.

China has opened many places. On May 11, the city of Wuhan ordered that all 11 million residents be tested for coronavirus after six new cases were reported, ending the city's 35-day streak of no new infections. In two weeks, 6.5 million were tested.
