Al Jazeera shows that as hospital beds fill up in the only hospital treating the coronavirus in the Afghan capital of Kabul, there are fears that a spike in the number of Coronavirus cases could be straining its fragile health system.

Testing, data and knowledge about the deadly virus are scant and many Afghans cannot afford face masks, despite the millions of dollars in aid given to help contain the Coronavirus Covid-19 Pandemic outbreak.

Afghanistan is officially the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. This is really a landlocked country at the crossroads of Central and South Asia. Afghanistan is bordered by Pakistan to the east and south; Iran to the west; Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan to the north; and China to the northeast. Occupying 652,000 square kilometers (252,000 sq mi), it is a large mountainous country with plains in the north and southwest. Kabul is the capital and largest city. The population is around 32 million, composed mostly of ethnic Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazaras, and Uzbeks.

It seems that humans lived in what is now Afghanistan at least 50,000 years ago. Settled life emerged in the region 9,000 years ago, evolving gradually into the Indus civilization (Shortugai site), the Oxus civilization (Dashlyji site), and the Helmand civilization (Mundigak site) of the 3rd millennium BCE.
