Germany takes precautions against spread of swine flu

This DW News video is interesting about Germany. Germany is taking precautions against the spread of swine flu into Germany from countries such as Poland.

Extensive precautions are taken on Germany's eastern border. Special fences have been made that have electric shocks so that swine don't cross the border. Some people worry that birds could touch swine and then fly over the fence to transmit the disease across the border.

Germans are also culling boars. This means they are reducing the wild animal population by selective slaughter by shooting them.

Many people question whether shooting boars and erecting temporary fences will be effective at keeping the pathogens out.

Sydney mass flooding, suburbs evacuated, schools closed

This is an interesting news video from Nine News Australia. Sydney is experiencing mass flooding. Suburbs have been evacuated. Schools have been closed. Residents of Sydney are seeing the damage caused by a weekend of torrential rain. There is widespread flooding across the city and suburbs are under forced evacuation.

It would have been nice to have lots of rain in the places of fires. That would have put out the fires. But, some places experienced dry times. Now, the heaviest rain in decades brings Australia drought relief and fire relief. It was actually Sydney’s wettest day since 1992. The damage to property was massive. There is certainly more rain expected on the east coast in the coming week.

Sydney experienced its wettest 24 hours since 1992, with 176 millimeters (7 inches) of rain falling in the city between Sunday and Monday morning, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. Another 200 millimeters are expected in some areas by next weekend.

Dramatic video shows Russia stadium collapse with worker on roof

Air drone footage captured the moment when the stadium collapsed in St Petersburg, Russia. A demolition worker has been killed when a sports complex roof collapsed too soon.

Disturbing footage shows the man with a blow torch cutting through metal supports at the SKK Peterburgskiy when the huge structure disintegrates.

Nearby, there was also a cage suspended from a crane. The body of a 29-year-old man was found later in the rubble.

The man was one of 4 employees cutting metal cables to dismantle the roof of the sports and concert complex.

People need to be safe when working at heights. You could be tied to the building. However, think about what are the chances that the structure will collapse. The chances of the structure collapsing are much higher if it is being demolished, disassembled, parts taken apart, unscrewed, unbolted, parts stripped, dismantled and so on.

French police clash with striking firefighters in Paris

An interesting video is here from Global News. French firefighters can be seen clashing with the police as they demonstrated in the streets of Paris against working conditions and the government’s pensions reform bill.

This is shocking, some firefighters wearing special protective vests actually set fire to themselves as a protest.

Thousands of French firefighters on Tuesday took to the streets of Paris in a pyrotechnic protest to demand better working conditions. They ignited flares and even set their fireproof jackets on fire.

Keep in mind that in France, firefighters also respond to general emergency calls. Unions try to battle controversial government pension reforms.

There were certain clashes with security forces. Some firefighters threw different objects and police responded with tear gas.
