The RCMP identified Jesse Van Rootselaar as the shooter who killed eight people in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., on Tuesday, before shooting herself. Police say they had been called to Van Rootselaar's residence before, including calls related to mental health issues. They also said firearms had previously been confiscated from the home.
CORRECTION (Feb, 13, 2026): At 0:35 and on-screen at 2:51, Emmett Jacobs is described as Jesse Van Rootselaar's stepbrother. In fact, Emmett's father confirmed he was her half-brother.
