Germany: Will combustion engines survive?

DW News has the story.

Germany is pressing to soften the European Union’s 2035 ban on new combustion engine vehicles, arguing hybrids, range extenders, and synthetic fuels deserve room in the transition. Industry leaders and trade unions warn that the rush to battery-electric leaves traditional auto suppliers and jobs in peril. Critics counter that synthetic fuels are too energy intensive and costly for mass use, making them viable only for niche segments. DW spoke to Andreas Herrmann, Director of the Institute for Mobility at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
