Canada: Alberta investigating outbreaks of P1 variant of coronavirus


CBC News shows that Alberta public health officials are investigating 2 certain workplace outbreaks of the P1 variant of the coronavirus first detected in Brazil. Intensive care physician Dr. Darren Markland likens being infected with P1 to 'getting hit with a Mack truck.' 

Mack Trucks, Inc., is an American truck manufacturing company and a former manufacturer of buses and trolley buses. Founded in 1900 as the Mack Brothers Company, it manufactured its first truck in 1907 and adopted its present name in 1922. 

The Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic in Alberta (Canadian Province) is part of an ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The Canadian province of Alberta has the 3rd-most cases of COVID-19 in Canada. Alberta is the 4th most populated province in Canada with a population of 4,306,039 representing 11.57%. By April 5, there were 153,194 confirmed cases, 10,582 active cases and 1,998 deaths in Alberta. The national total is 1,012,424 confirmed cases, 59,821 active cases and 23,095 deaths. The largest number of cases by zone have been in the Calgary zone, which has had 59,752 total cases.
